The Kade Damian Healing Hearts Park
The Playful Child has partnered with the City of Georgetown, TX, and the Parks and Recreation Department to design, build, and help maintain a public park and playground in memory of Kade Damian and all children who now live on in our hearts and memories.
In July 2019, the City of Georgetown provided 6 acres of land located at 1306 Country Club Drive for the Kade Damian Healing Hearts Park!
The 6 acres that have been dedicated to this project is raw land. This means that we have to design and raise the funds to install utilities, roads, trails, parking lot, landscaping, playground equipment, and more.
We envision a space that allows everyone the opportunity to play, relax, remember, and honor children who now live in our hearts and memories. It is our goal to design a space that will include memorials (such as benches, tables, art, statues, trees, and plaques), trails, a natural playground, pavilion with picnic area, bathroom, parking, access to the Georgetown San Gabriel River Trail system, and ample shade. We plan to offer grieving parents the opportunity to memorialize their loved ones as we create and build this special and unique place.
Jeff Lindstrom and Meade Mitchell traveled to Georgetown, TX, on November 4th, 2019, to meet with the park design committee and get everything started. A children's design committee met in October to contribute ideas and The Playful Child conducted an online survey to solicit community input. Below are image boards that show ideas of what we visualize having in the memorial park. On December 20, 2019, the memorial park design committee met to review the final edits to the conceptual design. We are very excited about what has been created and hope these plans help you and our community visualize what a special place we are working to create!
The estimated cost of the project is $1,000,000 with a timeline of 3-5 years to complete. With your support and investment, we can achieve this goal!
The next phase is to develop construction plans for the park. TBG has been selected as the company that will help with this phase. In order to start this step, we must raise $150,000. 2020 has thrown a curveball at everyone. The Playful Child is still deeply committed to seeing this project to completion, but our anticipated timeline will have to adjust to reflect the challenges faced this year. We are still working to raise the $150K needed for the construction plans. Recently, we received a very generous donation from The River Kelly Fund as well as several donations from the Art with Heart project. However, without being able to hold our scheduled events during 2020 we still need to raise about $120,000 to complete the construction plans. It is our hope to work with TBG to break the planning into phases. We are also partnering with Cook-Walden Funeral Home on memorials. However, the planning for these has been affected by the events of 2020 as well. We are eager to move forward but want to ensure we do so safely. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!
